Player versus Player (PvP) combat is one of, if not the most entertaining thing to do in EVE. It is also one of the most easy to get into, despite people's beliefs on the matter... Whether you go it alone, run with a corporation, or just relax in your Hulk; you will have heard the litany that you require months of accumulated skills, specialized ships, and plenty of friends to have any chance of becoming an accomplished PvPer. None of those would go amiss in combat, but they are hardly a prerequisite. Even in a frigate, with only Tech 1 equipment available to you, there are still many situations from which you can emerge victorious. Hopefully this article will convince others to jump that line, as I recently have, and begin to enjoy PvP as was intended from the very first days of EVE. This is not a guide, there are already many of those scattered about the internet, but a short piece of wisdom gleaned from the PvP experience. |

Contributed by Maraugus Are battlecruisers a disappointment to everyone (Drake PVE exception aside)? They seem to be lacking in a lot of areas to me. I'm certainly not the most highly skilled player, but I seem to be at a point in my skill training arc where I can properly fit a Battleship to fill its role nicely, and a Cruiser to do what cruisers do. The problem may be that the Battlecruiser role may be ill defined in the universe of Eve. Cruisers are fast and agile, allowing them to avoid the kind of fire from large targets that could potentially drop them in a couple volleys. They seem to have lenient enough fitting requirements to allow them to fit for sufficient damage and tank against the targets (other cruisers and frigs) they most frequently are called to destroy. |

By Maraugus EVE Online is a game unlike any other. EVE boasts one of the most mature and goal oriented player bases among all online games. Its subscriptions have been constantly on the rise since its launch in 2003, indicating it has a brilliant and receptive dev team commited to keeping the game balanced without alienating any players or playstyles. EVE is the only massively multiplayer online game that has one persistent game universe in which all players exist and are forced to deal with or destroy each other. This, coupled with game mechanics of corporations, alliances, sovereignty and a free market economy has created by far the richest player driven story currently imaginable. EVE Online isn't a sandbox at all. Its the ocean. A sandbox is where children play with toys. In New Eden empires rise and fall at the whim and will of real men and women. |

Been wondering where all your corp mates are? Frustrated at lack of ops? Chances are they're out in that strange place called outside... Despite EVE still being the most popular game of choice for a lot of corpies they will be out doing 'exercise' and communing with nature (Phobos does not condone yiffing in all it distrubing forms). But don't despair, Autumn is on its way to ruin what were once glourious weeks of sun or if you are one of those enjoying a very unbritish summer ( I mean you know you've been complaining about how warm it is). So what can we expect to come in the next couple of months? Well.... Aprocrypha 1.5 is coming in August to allow us to slink back behind our computers, let those tans fade back to the cool white pallor and with some interesting new features to come! |
